Wallpaper Hanging Techniques
Before any wallpapering is carried out on a wall, it is important to ensure that the wall is correctly prepared. At Mark Rogers Decorating we use a dust free sanding system from Festool. This specialist system not only makes sure that the wall is completely smooth but it removes any harmful dust that may otherwise hang in the air.
At this point any holes or imperfections in the wall can be filled and sanded so that they don’t show through the wallpaper when it is placed on the wall. An uneven wall will often show through the paper as shadows which can affect a patterned paper in particular. The wall should also be sized using a 50/50 PVA solution and then lined with a good lining paper if the wall is particularly bad.
Wallpaper hanging is an art and takes a keen eye to match up the patterns and keep a good straight edge. Cutting around light switches and plug sockets can also be tricky as well as behind radiators, which we prefer to remove and drain before we start anyway.
Many rooms which require wallpapering quite often also either have or require ceiling coving fitted which can really compliment a nice paper and give the room an elegant look and feel.
